Martin Collison was very pleased to be on the judging panel for the Innovation in Food Security Venture Creation Weekend held by the Judge Business School at Cambridge University from 15th-17th March. The weekend brought together a diverse group of 60 academics, industry members and advisors to work together on problems which could address global food security. With 9 teams developing business proposals over the weekend, the standard was very high.
Alongside fellow judges Dr Belinda Clarke of AgriTech East, Dr Lydia Smith of NIAB and Dr David Aldridge of Cambridge University, the results were:
1st Place – FoodPlus – making powdered fruit juices/drinks with surplus fruits and vegetables
2nd Place – Scran – A mobile application to calculate, track and reduce high carbon footprints
3rd Place – SmartFood – Data driven, tasty & convenient diet tailored, and delivered for you
What was striking was the focus on sustainability, health and digital solutions amongst the 9 teams, all of whom clearly understood many of the big drivers in the current food chain.
