EU Short Food Chains Focus Group – Scotland 21st-23rd April 2015

The programme included workshops sessions on how to facilitate the growth of short food chains in Europe as well as future research needs and the potential to develop EIP Operational Groups to address challenges in short food chains.

The event also included fascinating visits to:

Craigie’s www.craigies.co.uk a successful farm shop, PYO and visitor attraction close to Edinburgh.  A fascinating mix of fruit production and sales of local products is attracting a growing number of visitors and making Craigie’s a successful business;

Supernature www.supernature.uk.com an award winning rapeseed oil producer who has developed a reputation for excellence which has led to its products being stocked in supermarkets and independent retailers as well as direct sales at food fairs and to catering.  It now has the largest range of infused oils in the UK and continues to win awards;

Whitmuir www.whitmuirtheorganicplace.co.uk which is a 130acre mixed farm which has developed  a successful farm shop and restaurant to compliment its production of lamb, beef, eggs and salads.  The business is very active in promoting organic and sustainable agriculture and this includes successful programmes to educate the public and school children on the challenges of feeding the World sustainably.
